What is Pontoon?

A pontoon is a floating object, basically a dock. But it comes with various connecting elements such as land-based mooring blocks, a walkway and the floating deck, usually called a pontoon. It is vital to note that pontoons are anchored differently, and this is the stem of the different types.

What is Jetty?

Because they are fixed, jetties are incurably sturdy, a factor that makes them ideal for rough coastal regions. They can cope well with rebound water.

A jetty comes with high maintenance costs. For starters, it is mostly built of timber. Timber is not as durable as metal. That means you have to replace it periodically. Again, since they cannot move with tides, even stronger waves and tides can easily break them apart.

And it is worse if you tie your boat on these structures because stronger waves and tide will damage the boat too.

For these reasons, a floating pontoon, the jetty is more popular than a jetty.

  • They adjust with the level of water:  from their construction, the pontoons freely float on water. So if the level of water rises, they rise too. Similarly, when the level of water drops, they follow suit. That implies that you can use your pontoon regardless of the season because you will be sure your pontoon is always above water level.
